TurboTax Fights To Keep Tax Filing Harder Than Necessary

It seems to me that complicated tax codes work only to the advantage of the wealthy and corporations, you throw in the requisite C.P.A and tax attorney and the clients are thrilled with all of their savings; forget about doing their civic duty, their lobbyists have made sure that the tax code was written so that their tax avoidance somersaults are perfectly legal. The wealthy and corporations have long been desensitized to what it means to be involved with the public good and the commons; they have enjoyed their status as elite who deserve to be apart from the others so why should they part with their “hard earned” gains to subsidize those who aren’t “worthy”. I would love to see a simple tax code; you make X, you pay Y; end of story; none of this capital gains gibberish, money is money; simply because you are a billionaire doesn’t make your money more special than mine.

That’s one argument that has appealed to me about the flat tax: it closes the loopholes. Too bad it’s not particularly progressive!

    1. I agree wholeheartedly 🙂
