Obama, Putin Spoke On Sidelines Of D-Day Event

Dialogue is and always will be the most important tool in a leader’s tool box. I read yesterday that Putin is looking to align his country more closely with North Korea as payback against the EU and the U.S for its economic sanctions. I would rather have us engage in dialogue and renegotiate sanctions than have Putin and North Korea become allies. As a world community we have worked hard to isolate North Korea in our attempt to have it forgo its nuclear arms program, but if Russia aligns herself with North Korea, our ongoing economic sanctions against North Korea will lose their teeth and thus their efficacy. Perhaps this casual meeting and discussion will open up further opportunities for more productive meetings down the line; one can only hope.
