Obama: It’s ‘Disturbing’ That A Climate Change Denier Chairs Senate Environmental Committee

I disagree with President Obama’s statement that addressing climate change as a political issue doesn’t givean immediate payoff; au contraire by implementing tough environmental standards to the oil, coal and natural gas industries, we get less pollutants in our soil, air and water and that is an immediate payoff in my book. My argument against all of these climate change deniers is that even if they were correct and it was a hoax, though frankly getting 97% of scientists to agree on one subject is almost unprecedented, I would still want to move on to renewable energies simply because we are killing ourselves with toxic chemicals. That is one argument that they cannot argue with; oil spills, chemical wastewater leaks, high levels of carbon in the air are dangerous to our health and the energy companies do not do anything on their own to prevent them or clean them up; so that is why we need our government to do their mandate in protecting us the people from corporate malfeasance. I do agree that having Senator Inhofe as chairman of the environment and science committee is akin to having the fox guard the henhouse and there should be some way to have him recuse himself or be forced to step down because he is a threat to our environment. President Obama was correct again when he said  that it would be hilarious if it weren’t so frightening. I fear for our nation because we are at the mercy of the Republican Party for two solid years and if the White House switches back over to the Republican Party in 2016, we can kiss good sound environmental protections goodbye, innovative renewable energy initiatives goodbye and most likely peace goodbye, because the Republican Party is itching to get into war with Iran, it doesn’t look very good for us two years from now. Unless we get someone other than Hillary Clinton to run and I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will happen, we are desparate for a strong, competitive democratic primary for our own sake and eventually the good of the country.
