Pelosi, Boehner Rekindle Bipartisanship With $214 Billion Medicare Deal

This is a welcome change and it goes to show that when two seasoned professionals come together and open-mindedly engage in negotiations, a constructive and positive piece of legislation can be achieved. I am sure that there will be additional adjustments made, but for a first run draft, it is very hopeful. Now I am hoping that the senate will be shamed into following the house’s lead and continue with a similar productive consensus building exercise to reconcile their votes that will get this bill off to the Presdient’s desk. I am aware that there are a few key areas of dissension, the two year extension for CHIP isn’t long enough for many democrats and applying the Hyde amendment to Community Health Centers is a sticking point as well, I can only keep my fingers crossed that moderate republicans can do something about those sticking points and compromise will win the day. This is a prime example that work can be done when two parties come together and put their minds to it. Discussion and negotiations are fundamental to producing legislative achievements and perhaps this will remind many of our legislators what they have been elected to do on our behalf.
