Why Hillary Clinton

I would argue that Bernie Sanders’ vision for our society isn’t one steeped in fantasy, we had such a society back in the 1950’s when unions were strong, the system of university at California was practically free, medical costs were affordable, why we didn’t take advantage of that to pass universal health care is something I don’t understand, but all in all there was a healthy respect for the middle class, workers and our nation. Fast forward to today and the legacy of neoliberal economic policy, Bill Clinton was a proponent during his two terms, he didn’t reverse the damage Reagan had inflicted on our nation’s understanding of what government means to the people. One of Reagan’s biggest wounds that he willfully inflicted on our democracy was the phrase he uttered “government is the problem” and the policies he put forth to hammer that philosophy into our socio-political fabric. I have yet to hear Hillary Clinton argue against that most detrimental philosophy, she strikes me as being center right, we need a serious progressive to steer our economy and society back to the ideal that everyone has a right to opportunity and possibility. We have had too many decades where opportunity and possibility have slipped away from those who aren’t part of the elite, we need to bring it back if only for the good of the country because honestly, neoliberal economic policy that only works for the 1% works only in the short-term, in the long term it leaves a nation depleted of its infrastructure, its resources and its public weal. Progressives can turn it around, I know it.
